“Martin is someone who visibly lives & breathes our Network Rail behaviours on a daily basis, regularly receiving glowing feedback from colleagues & customers alike. He provides exceptional service, working collaboratively with others to challenge & improve processes whilst listening & responding to his customers' needs to reach desired results. He has a strong desire to promote the reputation of finance within IP track and the wider Network Rail community, volunteering to be a finance champion for both the new starter pack and the relationship with NSC. Another great example of his unsung work is when he identified the high level of Balance Sheet KPIs with incomplete narratives. He took the initiative to understand the levels of reporting & clarify lines of accountability by defining the current state, activities & flows including the omissions & blockers. Through a combination of face-to-face meetings with finance's internal customers, numerous calls & emails to exchange data & issues, he kept his focus working through the problems to identify the most effective business & commercial solution whilst ensuring that deadlines and targets were met. Combining his existing working relationships with a quiet, probing nature he got everyone involved to buy into the final solution with comprehensive processes, clear accountability, reduced balances & comprehensive narratives. The way Martin has approached this complex piece of work has been commendable - he has enhanced working relationships & established Finance as a progressive and proactive function. What he does and the way he achieves it deserves wider recognition - he is a true role model showing us all how to constantly seek better solutions, be respectful and trusting and deliver results through others - day after day.“
