Said the following about Kev Adlam:

“Kev epitomises people within the Industry who do incredible things in support of many charities Including RBF and the Railway Children and would be such a deserving recipient of the Charitable Person of the year award.

In his voluntary position as Branch Line Society's fixtures secretary he has played an integral role in all of the successful events which the Society have run in support of their designated charities, in terms of both their planning and delivery.

In the last 4 years alone Kev has been involved in activities helping to raise in excess of £350,000 for many charities including RBF , Railway Children , Marie Curie & Barnardo's

As a true Rail enthusiast, he always leads by absolute example on board all of the tours and his energy really is infectious and warmly received by all.

However it is the genuine passion with which Kev always looks to explore and help deliver new opportunities in support of charitable work, which is so inspirational. His relentless endeavours with Branch Line Society have given some memorable experiences to so many Society members and made such a difference to the lives of hundreds, who without the help of people such as Kev life would be so much worse.

He has a huge list of contacts throughout the industry which has seen the BLS link up with over 50 industry partners and preservation groups to run events many of which see money go to good causes from big names small it’s an impressive list, here is just a few

First Great Western, Merseyrail, Trans Pennine Express, London Underground Limited, East Midlands Trains, Northern Trains, Chiltern Railways, Nottingham NET, Docklands Light Railway, Crossrail, Blackpool Heritage Trams, South Western Trains, Virgin Trains East Coast, Southern, Thameslink (Great Northern), Southeastern Trains, DRS, West Coast, GBR, Riviera Trains, AV Dawson, Middlesborough Rail Operations Group, Colas and many many more

Paul Stewart who is the editor of the BLS society magazine said of Kev; “It has been an honour and a privilege to work with Kev Adlam our Fixtures Secretary. His energy, drive enthusiasm, attention to detail and selfless ethic is incredible, an inspiration and motivation to our (volunteer) Committee and all of our members. With his involvement the Branch Line Society has grown from 850 to over 1,100 members and been transformed into a modern railway infrastructure study group that is taking on young members for the future. Kev always goes to extra mile in organising our fixtures, investing hours of his time, developing safe methods of working and dealing with the inevitable problems. He typically makes 6-8 face to face site visits, all over the country, per major rail tour (of which there has been one a month on average recently). Kev's attention to detail and meticulous planning ensures events run smoothly so that the TOCs involved and participants actually feel they have had a really good day out, enjoyed themselves, made some new friends and raised impressive sums for deserving railway based charities. On our trips he is always the first to put his hands in his pockets on a generous scale too and turn his hands to any task from collecting rubbish to train announcements and unblocking toilets... “

Our Treasurer, Chairman and General Secretary have all separately confided to me that they feel motivated to do what they do by his example.“
