Nominations for Station Staff Award

Said the following about Lorna Bathgate:

“A few months ago, on what otherwise was a normal Friday, one of Lorna Bathgate’s Avanti West Coast colleagues collapsed at Inverkeithing Station on the overbridge while making his way to work. A customer alerted the station staff, who then ran to the colleague’s aid where he was not breathing and appeared blue. Without hesitation, Lorna turned him onto his back and began CPR. There was a doctor there as well, giving instruction and organizing the other staff and bystanders to take turns giving CPR, following Lorna’s lead. After a couple of minutes of CPR, Lorna asked for another staff member to grab the defibrillator, which she then used before continuing CPR and compressions. This continued for ten minutes before paramedics were able to arrive, and by that time, our colleague was breathing again, thanks to Lorna’s heroic lead.

A few days later, Lorna’s manager, Heather Simpson, was in touch with the Avanti West Coast staff in Edinburgh who advised her that the colleague was doing well and in good spirits. Heather’s number was passed onto his partner, who had mentioned she would like to pop by the Inverkeithing station and meet the people who saved her partner’s life. When she came, Heather was there: ‘It was quite a magical moment I must say. Lots of happy tears were shed!’

Since then, Lorna has managed to meet the colleagues. It’s not every day you go to work and literally save a man’s life, and a member of the railway family at that.“

Said the following about Lorna Bathgate:

“Lorna saved a colleagues life when he collapsed and wasn't able to breathe. This could have ended with him losing his life if CPR wasn't given in time“
