Said the following about Gordon Burns:

“Gordon Burns joined the railway family in the founding days of Virgin Trains carving his career as a chef based at Glasgow Central station. His wealth of experience in hospitality, his cheeky grin and personality soon endeared him to his colleagues. He went on to steer his career in the direction of train manager where he treated his passengers with respect, empathy and also sternness when needed. He encountered various situations throughout the years from happy to sad the unbelievable and the unexpected. One of the most prevalent of these was the Grayrigg disaster in 2007 in which Gordons train was derailed. His thirst for knowledge of railway rules and regulations grew and he was elected as a union rep, facilitating and assisting his colleagues often in his own time.

Being part of the railway family obviously means making friends and a wee bit of socialising. It was during one of these soiree's Gordon met and ultimately fell in love with Kathryn, also a railway member. They went onto enjoy pleasant days out, holidays local and further afield and a mutual love for their cats Kai and Toby. Basically Gordon turned into a doting dada proudly showing us pictures and videos of their beloved babies.

Gordons "real family" is vast and includes many brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles plus cousins. Also his child/adulthood unconditional love for Glasgow Celtic football club, shared with his fellow Tm and pal Debs and many many buddies.

Collectively these kith and kin were stunned when on the 29th November 2021 Gordon sadly and unexpectedly died. He simply was just a nice guy who relished the opportunities his 25years as part of the railway family gave him.“
