The RailStaff Awards 2024

Shane Andrews MBE

Said the following about Digital, Social Media and Film:

“Chris, Alex and the team arranged with Archway, Network Rail's LGBT+ employee network to do something to promote the LGBT+ community and the challenges faced. Together, they came up with a concept called: Do I offend you?

The output of a 6 month project, from concept to delivery, was a film designed to show what Pride means to our employees here at Network Rail, and stresses how important it is that they are their whole selves at work as part of the Railway Family. It also recognises the history of Pride and the lived experiences of our LGBT+ colleagues.

To go alongside the film, there was a full social media campaign including one to one interviews with the cast, to share more about the challenges they face and how included they are in the business and there was also a tongue in cheek video where colleagues shared how they felt about mean/nasty/hateful comments received via social media (all based on actual comments received).

The film was seen by over half a million people during the campaign and Chris, Andy and the team delivered an excellent end product campaign and our Chief of Staff at the time said he felt the film was (rightly) provocative and the best video Network Rail had ever created. We couldn't have asked for better allyship from an internal team and I really feel they're worthy of recognition for their hard work and efforts with this.
