Said the following about Bryan Lunt:

“Bryan is a train driver for CrossCountry trains. One day Bryan was waiting for his train on the platform at the station when he noticed an individual standing at the very end of the platform, beyond the signals, where passengers are not permitted to go. Bryan had an unsettling feeling that something wasn’t quite right. His initial instinct was correct. The individual was trying to step off the platform onto the track in front of a train. It was clear that they were distressed, and vulnerable and wanted to cause some serious harm to themselves or even take their own life.

Bryan reacted on impulse and approached the young, vulnerable adult with care. At this point, a train was coming into the station, and luckily, the train driver of the approaching train noticed them and managed to stop the train and make an emergency call. Bryan very calmly talked to the individual and tried to comfort or reassure them. As he got closer, he noticed the young adult was bleeding from their wrists, and it was clear they had cut them with a razor blade, which they were holding in their hand. They continued to cut themselves persistently, saying they'd had enough, but Bryan continued to reassure and talk to them. At this point, two off-duty police officers arrived at the scene and took over the situation. Bryan was shaken by the incident, but it was clear he made a difference by continuing to talk to and reassure them until additional support arrived.

We believe that Bryan’s intervention clearly prevented a young, vulnerable person from taking their life who was in a state of extreme distress. His actions are commendable in such a challenging, high-octane situation, and he made the personal decision to take the lead and influence an otherwise uncertain outcome.“
