Said the following about Abdul Rehman Savant IEng MIET-**LEFT COMPANY**:

“Abdul is so passionate about his area of expertise and health, safety and sustainability. He takes the time to explain and educate others and mentors his colleagues. His work ethic is to be commended, great attention to detail and he does over and above what is required of him, he has grown in confidence since I first met him and Abdul always goes the extra mile. He is proactive in encouraging his colleagues, including me to be safer and healthier(the business recently ordered stickers for hard hats and Abdul emailed all members of the office to remind them to check the expiry date on their hard hats). He promotes exercise and working closely with our Occupational Health team to improve the health of his fellow railway engineers. He takes part in and assists in driving forward safety initiatives and is a proactive Safety Representative for his department, ensuring that all the teams views are heard and he provides feedback to his colleagues, he has taken it upon himself to hold lunch and learn seminars in conjunction with the IRSE and these have really taken off and people benefit greatly from the knowledge and the networking that these events provide. Abdul is deserving of the title Rail Engineer of the Year due to his attitude to work, the development of others and himself and the willingness to go the extra mile to make a difference.“

As a Principal Engineer and Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) working with Abdul, he is someone that you want in your team to provide the deliverables that you require and to assist and mentor other team members.

Said the following about Abdul Rehman Savant IEng MIET-**LEFT COMPANY**:

“I have nominated this individual due to his tireless efforts to produce clear, detailed and accurate E&P Signalling Feeder designs for the Bristol Area Re-signalling Renewals (BASRE) project within the timelines required.

His work has consistently proven to be of a very high standard which is evidenced by his ability to reinforce any design decisions made when any are scrutinised by Network Rail.

Further evidence of this individual's attention to detail is through the minimum number of design issues identified by Network Rail, even with our enhanced scrutiny of the submitted design packages.

The nominated individual has delivered a significant quantity of design work for the BASRE project since 2013 to 2016 which is evidenced by his authorship of the documents submitted.

He is always happy to discuss any issues identified and is always keen to ensure that Network Rail's queries are considered and promptly expedited.

This individual has a clear understanding that a company's best policy is always to remember to engage with the customer at the earliest opportunity to ensure any identified issues are quickly resolved.

This individual is also pragmatic in his outlook, having a clear awareness of what differentiates a "real" concern within the greater list of design engineering challenges.

This individual has already made significant steps towards achieving his goal of acquiring the CEng qualification, which suggest that he is keen to improve his own professional standing within the larger engineering community.

Network Rail is also aware of his ongoing internal efforts within his own company to develop his junior colleagues through personally arranging "lunch and learn" meetings for his fellow staff.

I whole heartily recommend him for the assigned Rail-Staff awards and truly hope that 2016 will be his winning year.

Kind Regards,

Alex Planitzer, BEng (Hons) CEng (BASRE Network Rail E&P Project Engineer)“

Said the following about Abdul Rehman Savant IEng MIET-**LEFT COMPANY**:

“Abdul is a shining example of an engineer who goes the extra mile to add value to his colleagues and workplace through skills, team building, and sustainability.

Skills - Abdul independently organises a monthly 'Lunch and Learn Session' where external companies come and deliver an hour-long workshop on an engineering subject for any interested employees to attend at an Alstom location, free of charge.

Sustainability - Abdul is Sustainability Site Coordinator for Alstom Birmingham Office where he disseminates and collates sustainability-related information. He has a real passion for driving efficiencies and uses his approachable, kind nature to collect and communicate learnings effectively. In terms of rail engineering, Abdul takes a keen interest in utilising new technologies to reduce travel, reduce time on track, and ultimately reduce re-work through methods such as working with Network Rail on their laser and photography of the track.

Team building - Abdul is a strong team builder and organises regular activities to get employees together outside of the work place. These socials improve morale and provide valuable networking which drives innovation by getting heads together that may not normally meet in their day to day roles.“

“I would like to nominate Abdul for the Rail Engineer of the Year award, as he has certainly established himself as an enthusiastic and prominent member of the Alstom Power Team. His positive attitude and work ethic, transcends throughout the whole team and through to the rest of Alstom, and he is a well respected individual. Abdul always rises to meet every challenge with a professional attitude. Abdul is a highly motivated individual who supports and assists his fellow colleagues at all levels. Abdul is a personable young man and always makes a smart appearance and performs in a professional manner. His commitment to working on the BASRE Project has also proven that he will go above and beyond all boundaries, to ensure that he achieves his objectives, purely for the success of the project, and not just for personal gain. He is a very active member of the Alstom Team in Birmingham and really pushes his colleagues to be the best of the best. Abdul has really made his mark with organising and facilitating lunchtime Seminars, which offer insight into Railway & Power Products and Initiatives, and he is always willing to offer guidance and mentorship to his colleagues. Said the following about Abdul Rehman Savant IEng MIET-**LEFT COMPANY**:

“Abdul remains a highly committed employee to Alstom Transport UK Limited (formerly Signalling Solutions Limited). His commitment to personal development as well as those within the organisation or even so to the client Network Rail by showing some of his many great qualities. He has shown this through arranging informative CPD's or whilst working on project delivery within strict deadlines.

Abdul promotes good leadership skills whilst being mentored by like-minded senior colleagues as well as workshops that promote an effective working environment whether this is through new Technology, Software, Policies or Procedures concerning his area of speciality.

Although it may have been a few years since I have worked in close proximity to him I can say with confidence that in the short time I was around Abdul I could sense the passion and drive he possessed to succeed within the E&P Department. This is whilst being under the supervision of a talented senior team including Jai Smart.

I am quite surprised that even though there may be many talented individuals within Railways to choose from for this award that Abdul hasn't been rewarded with this accolade.

I wish him all the luck and it goes without saying this talented individual is an asset to his colleagues, organisation and the railway industry.“

Said the following about Abdul Rehman Savant IEng MIET-**LEFT COMPANY**:

“Abdul is a conscientious dedicated member of the BASRE Engineering and wider project team, who drives technical excellence through both collaborative and productive, effective working. This is not limited to within the E&P discipline, of which he is a lead Power Engineer. But also when he is interfacing to other project disciplines like Systems, Signalling and Civil Engineering. Offering personal face to face interaction at short notice in Alstom’s many offices around the UK.

His knowledge of his discipline’s competent systems, their theory and attributes is excellent, however what stands out is his understanding of their interaction with other downstream apparatus and systems. He is thorough in exanimating other interdependent discipline design to ensure seamless integration, well in advance of any pre IDC meetings involving his E&P design.

Abdul keeps a keen eye on process by maintaining a high integrity of the Railway Standards and procedures. He is currently beginning the process of briefing out within Alstom UK best practice of Signalling Power System Architecture. To empower all disciplines from Design through to Construction and Testing, for both the E&P disciplines and other disciplines like Signalling and Systems. This is in addition to taking an active lead in Alstom ‘Lunch and Learn’ sessions in the Birmingham area, to not only increase his own knowledge but also the knowledge of others.

Abdul manages to undertake this, whilst at the same time driving the programme to ensure timely and successful completion of milestones, including significant Network Rail Design Acceptance submissions.“
