Nicola Griffiths - **HAS LEFT**

Said the following about Lesley Bibby - **HAS LEFT**:

“Lesley Bibby, an assistant service manager at Virgin Trains, left the train where she was working after hearing a commotion as they waited at the station.

Lesley, who is from Trearddur Bay near Holyhead , said: “I was cashing-up on board the service to Holyhead when I heard someone shout out in panic.

“I rushed off the train to investigate and saw a crowd of passengers standing on the platform, pointing underneath the train.

“The man had fainted after stepping off the train, falling between the carriage and platform onto the tracks.

Lesley offered the man reassurance before jumping down onto the track and used a textbook deadlift to lift him onto the platform.

Paramedics soon arrived and took him to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor for a check up.

Speaking of the incident Lesley said: “I was desperate to help the gentleman and thanks to my training, I knew the safest way to do this.

“It was quite difficult as there wasn’t much room to move and there is a big drop from the platform to the track – it’s like being in a pool without the water.

“So, my experience, as a lifeguard and Olympic Weightlifting skills definitely helped me lift him.

“Who would have thought this would come in handy on the railways? But in such a confined space, there was no other way to lift him.”

Gary Iddon, general manager at Virgin Trains on the West Coast, said: “Lesley demonstrated the important role we play in helping to keep customers safe on the railway and went above and beyond her duties to rescue the gentleman and make sure he was okay - we’re all ready proud of her.”

Lesley added: “It was fantastic to be able to help the gentleman, there’s no other feeling like it, knowing that you’ve played a part in coming to someone’s rescue.“
