Nominations for Apprentice of the Year

Hannah Crowley

Said the following about Hannah Crowley:

“In his final year at Chaucer School, Jonathan first came to Linbrooke at the age of 14 as one of our fledgling ‘Phoenix Project’ candidates. Facing permanent exclusion, bad grades and a directionless future, he was selected to undertake a long-term work experience scheme with Linbrooke in the hope that he could turn his life around.

Coming from a difficult background, Jonathan initially displayed a negative attitude and a reluctance to commit himself to a new avenue of learning. However, after receiving support and gradually gaining both self-confidence and skill, he truly began to excel in his placement.

Reaching the end of his extended programme in 2014, he had successfully improved his grades, his attendance and his attitude, displaying “one of the most dramatic attitude changes Linbrooke had ever seen”.

Described by Catherine Dawson, Linbrooke’s Head of HR, as “a determined and positive young man with a complete dedication to both the company and his work”, Jonathan was offered an apprenticeship with Linbrooke which he seized with both hands.

Embarking on his 4-year apprenticeship scheme just under 2 years ago, he has continued to go above and beyond the expected workload of an apprentice. Always the last one to down his tools, Project Engineer Marc Heyman stated that “Jon Houlding’s performance on site is exceptional. Since he’s been working on the Banbury project, he is always keen to learn, shows a great attitude to his work and nothing is ever too much trouble for him. I’ve received nothing but good reports from his supervisors and he is successfully building a comprehensive understanding of electrical engineering”.

Suffering with dyslexia, Jonathan frequently struggles with the academic side of his apprenticeship, but he never lets this deter him from his path. Exerting ‘an unparalleled amount of effort’ to ensure that he reaches the highest possible standard, he determinedly applies himself to every area of his training.

Receiving praise and commendations from all those who have the privilege of working with him, his mentor, Steve Brown, said “we were concerned about Jonathan’s attitude and aptitude at the beginning of the course, but since starting his apprenticeship he has proven himself a hundred times over. Respectful, skilled and incredibly hard working, he will be an asset to any team he works with throughout his entire career.”

Emulating Linbrooke’s quality driven, can-do ethos and commitment, Jonathan displays a constant passion for his work while maintaining a humility that ensures he is continually striving to improve. His positive transformation teamed with his dedication and consistently high work-ethic truly make him an individual to be proud of.“
