“Charlie joined MTR Crossrail in May 2015 as an apprentice in the Safety, Quality & Environment team and since he started he has consistently performed at a high level. Although just embarking on his railway career he has already demonstrated a keen eye for detail and has internally won our Apprentice of the Year award. This was no mean feat as the calibre of apprentices in the business generally is exceptional, but Charlie has grasped a fundamental understanding of all departments.
Charlie has been involved in several projects, including the development of a personal safety handbook, developing and delivering our sustainability month road shows, maintaining the SQE notice boards and managing the core safety briefing process to name but a few!
He has also been supportive at numerous station events, supporting MTR Crossrail community engagement. Charlie constantly strives to find better ways of working – at our departmental SQE meetings he diligently takes the minutes in a format that make the actions more deliverable for all those present.
Juggling all this whilst still completing an NVQ in business studies, with a positive can do attitude, is challenging but Charlie consistently meets every challenge that we set him with enthusiasm. He has a high regard for his colleagues and is always willing to go the extra mile. He has a professional attitude that will serve him well in his future career.“

“Charlie joined the SQE team during a very busy time for MTR Crossrail – we were in the middle of mobilising our operations! Recognising the often hectic pace of the business around him, Charlie took it upon himself to learn as much as he could about his role, the business and the railway in general during times when others were very often busy with their own work. This proactive approach meant that Charlie’s team mates could rely on him to pick-up tasks quickly with a minimum level of supervision. This, in turn, has enabled Charlie to spend a lot of time out on the ‘patch’ meeting and working with frontline colleagues and seeing first hand some of the challenges a busy railway encounters. This understanding has enabled Charlie to produce consistently high quality work – particularly when producing safety-related communications to frontline staff.“
