Nominations for Samaritans Lifesaver Award

Tobi Shear-Smith

Said the following about Purna Gurung:

“This individual was paired with Mr Malla (Nominated separately) who was called to attend to a potentially suicidal male at a Station.

They dealt with this person sensitively and professionally placing themselves between the person and the running line and keeping him calm, they identified he was a real suicide risk and ensured the Police were attending whilst keeping him safe, engaging with him in a caring and calming manner. This person was then eventually sectioned and received help. This is an extract from an email sent by this person to BTP which I think you will agree shows how successful and professional they were.

"Hello. I would like to thank, very, very very, very much, the two transport police officers ( they said they were from Brighton) that attended the train station on Tuesday late evening/ Wednesday early morning to attend to myself. They sectioned 316 and called an ambulance. I honestly needed help that particular moment in time to stay alive. I told them this and they believed me and helped me to a sanctuary where I told them I felt safe and needed to go. Those two officers helped to save my life, I know this for a fact."“

Yubaraj Limbu

Said the following about Purna Gurung:

“I am pleased to nominate Purna Gurung for the Samaritans Lifesaver Award. Without the quick response of Purna Gurung & his co-worker Tek Malla at the station, it would have probably been a fatality incident. I had the honour of working with him a few weeks ago,

During that period, I developed enormous respect for his dedication to the work he does. It has been a privilege to know him and he deserve every bit of it.“
