Nominations for Samaritans Lifesaver Award

Gerry Daly

Said the following about Paul Campbell:

“I would like to nominate Conductor Paul Campbell for really going the extra mile in March by intervening with two suicidal women who were on the track.

The driver spotted the ladies on the track and stopped the train. The women were highly distressed and emotional, with the line secured Paul climbed down onto the track and talked the ladies into calming down and cooperating. They told Paul that problems and they just wanted to die, Paul spent over 20 minutes talking to the ladies and he encouraged them to get onto the train where they would be safe. Driver manager Darrell Morley was on the train and said both women were hysterical and in a bad way, Paul's intervention prevented a real tragedy.

He dealt with the situation calmly and professionally, he deserves to be recognised for successfully handling a highly distressing encounter.“

Adrian Brown

Said the following about Paul Campbell:

“In support of the other nominations for Paul and as a previous winner of Trainer/Training Team of the Year, it is absolutely right that Paul goes forward as a candidate following the events in March when he was involved in a life saving intervention. I have known Paul for many years and he is always going that extra mile to assist others, last year putting together a presentation on 'Life on the Railway' for a class of severely disabled children in his own time. The fact that someone of his calibre was at the right time at the right place was clearly fortuitous, but it still took his own personal skill and willingness to commit, that helped save these ladies. Well done to Paul; thoroughly deserved recognition!“
