Said the following about Matt Staniforth:

“At approximately 1617 hours on the 19/01/2017 Matt Staniforth was driving the 1H43 service from Littlehampton to London Victoria via Hove, as he approached East Worthing Station he observed a lady walking in the CESS.

It was apparent that the lady on the CESS was upset and distressed, she told staff that she had a “ blade “ and was threatening to self-harm herself.

Using appropriate inter-personal skills both drivers managed to reassure the lady and convince her to walk back and enter the cab.

Once on the train Matt continued to reassure the lady and proceeded to Lancing Station where she was later arrested. It was Matt quick thinking and kindness that I am sure saved this ladies life.“
