Said the following about David Johnston:

“Yesterday I was doing a site visit with contractors for the new mid platform fencing that we are installing. Whilst there I witnessed an elderly gentleman drop to the floor and attempt to climb down onto the track in front of a non-stopping passenger service approaching platform 3. Dave realised immediately what was happening as it was happening, shouted at the man which seemed to give him a shock and then ran down the stairs to the underpass and over to platform 3 as we continued shouting (myself in a blind panic) from platform 2. As I arrived, Dave was already helping the gentleman to his feet, talking to him all the time in a very kind voice, reassuring him that he wasn’t in trouble and that we just wanted to help. The gentleman seemed quite concerned that Dave was in the ‘railway police’ but he constantly reaffirmed that he was just there to help (whilst also checking I was ok), which seemed to calm the gentleman down. He remained with the gentleman until the police and ambulance arrived using his MSC skills constantly to control the situation.

I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that had Dave not realised what was happening and reacted so quickly, we would have had a fatality at Romford yesterday.“
