Said the following about Richard Harte:

“Richard Harte and Nick Matthews from G&W UK have collaborated with the training team at customer's Metro Shipping on an exciting, innovative Partnership Development Programme which sees colleagues from both companies taking part in cross-training activities.

The programme provides colleagues with the opportunity to experience different aspects of the supply chain thereby broadening their understanding of the end-to-end process and the logistics industry as a whole. It also facilitates networking opportunities with key partners and suppliers, leading to improved working relationships.

As well as individual career development, both organisations benefit from enhanced employee skills, improved workforce morale and motivation and wider networking opportunities. There are also opportunities to share best practices, leading to improved customer service levels with the potential to push more freight from road to rail, and the environmental benefits that brings.

To kick off the programme, Pentalver invited staff from Metro to Cannock and Birmingham so that they could experience the hectic and busy world of a road and rail freight terminal.

Over four planned visits, they gained first-hand experience of transport planning, container control and rail freight operations, with the final day spent out on the road with Pentalver truck drivers. All activities were undertaken following the usual site inductions ensuring the safety of all involved and enabling the trainees to experience both the office and frontline operating environments and helping them gain an understanding of the challenges both face.

Metro Shipping’s Training & Career Development Manager, Colin Smith commented: “Metro Shipping is pleased to be working with G&W UK on this exciting new staff development programme aimed at raising colleagues’ understanding of how their partner organisations work. This dynamic new Partnership Development Programme takes staff from one contributing supply chain partner and shows them what it’s like to be ‘on the other side’ and experience first-hand what their industry colleagues do to keep freight moving. It also provides a great opportunity for staff to expand their knowledge and build new working relationships that will aid their career development. “

“I am confident that working together to provide this learning experience to staff will support our continuous drive to improve working relationships at both junior and senior levels and create more informed supply chain professionals for the future.”

Following the success of these initial cross-training activities, further training sessions are planned, including a reciprocal visit of Pentalver staff to Metro Shipping and a second wave of Metro Shipping colleagues to the G&W operations.“
