Said the following about Reece Martin:

“Reece is an experienced lead assessor for NCB and routinely undertakes complex assessments on a wide range of projects and programmes including HS2 and the Redevelopment of Euston Conventional Station.

Reece is acting as lead assessor for NCB’s initial preliminary CSM-RA safety assessment report and lead assessor for stations including HS2 Euston, Old Oak Common, Birmingham Interchange and Curzon Street. Includes attendance and assessment of hazard identification workshops, production of system and individual delivery project independent assessment plans and audit plans, assessment of complex multi-disciplinary hazard records, plans for compliance with CSM-RA and system definitions and safe integration assessments. Also requires representation of NCB at system safety working groups and production and delivery of technical presentations to a range of audiences.

The Redevelopment of Euston Conventional Station project involves the complete redevelopment of Euston conventional UK mainline station with a new footprint and platform reduction following the beginning of HS2 works (including significant architectural and ergonomic alterations). Reece’s responsibilities include acting as lead assessor, production of independent assessment plans and audit plans, assessment of hazard records, plans for compliance with CSM-RA and system definitions and safe integration assessments. Also requires representation of NCB at system safety working groups.

This year Reece has been awarded The Thorrowgood scholarship which is awarded annually under a bequest of the late W J Thorrowgood (IRSE Past President) to assist the development of a young engineer employed in the signalling and telecommunications field of engineering and takes the form of an engraved medallion and a sum of approximately £1500 to be used to finance a study tour of railway signalling installations or signalling manufacturing facilities. The award is made, subject to satisfactory interview, to the Institution young member attaining at least a pass with credit in four modules in the Institution’s examination. The interview panel said they found Reece to be well motivated and a keen advocate of the Institution.

Reece was featured in IRSE News on his achievement and as ever the article demonstrates Reece’s modesty and humility; not only did he complete four of the Institution of Railway Signalling Engineer’s with a superb result in each he did them all in the same year – the only IRSE candidate to do so this year. This is a remarkable achievement and became the bedrock for his application to Membership of the IRSE and professional accreditation as an Incorporated Engineer. A credit to NCB and his profession.“
