The RailStaff Awards 2024

Nominations for Rail Manager of the Year

Kelly Wilson

Said the following about Paul Wyborn:

“For me, it’s a just a small gesture to say thank you for everything Paul has done over the years, especially the support/flexibility he has given me with not only work issues but personal items too. As a team we have spoken about the importance of recognition for our front line teams but I also think it is important to remember our immediate team too. I think nominating Paul would be a brilliant way to recognise the hard work and dedication that Paul has given to the High Weald & Sutton area, as well as recognition for all the hard work and additional hours he put into planning the Three Bridges to Brighton block.“

Management Team High Weald Area

Said the following about Paul Wyborn:

“Paul has been on the railway for over 25 years, working his way up to his current position of Area Manager for the High Weald Area.

During this time Paul has accumulated a wealth of knowledge which he uses to support his Team and Staff members.

He is always available to assist and offer support not only to his High Weald Management Team and staff but also the wider business and his Peers.

Since moving to the High Weald Paul worked on The Brighton Mainline Blockade which was a huge success and recently won a National Rail Award for Customer Service Excellence. Prior to this whilst based at Brighton, he has organised the various football events making sure that the systems were in place to ensure the safety of staff and passengers. Paul is the "go to person" when major events need organising and support.

Paul's door is always open for his staff and managers to offer advice and guidance and we as a Management Team would like to nominate him for the Rail Manager of the Year award to thank him for being the kind, supportive and encouraging manager that he is.“

Carrol Humphris

Said the following about Paul Wyborn:

“I am nominating Paul for this award because of his continual hard work and commitment towards our Area to ensure he gets the best out of everybody. Paul has supported me beyond words, both at work and on a personal basis when last year I went through a difficulty pregnancy. His support throughout this was amazing. Paul has been my line manager for many years now and I cannot thank him enough for all the support he has given me. He is always available to listen and without his drive, I do not think, I would be the manager I am today.“

James Frost

Said the following about Paul Wyborn:

“Paul recruited me 18months ago after I had just lost my baby son and needed a change of career. He is the most supportive, flexible and caring person. He really helped me through a very tough time and the following very high risk pregnancy, all the while helping me to achieve our goals and developing me into becoming a good Station Manager. I now have a healthy 9 month old son that my wife and I thank him for as without the support and flexibility he gave us this may not have happened. I may have moved on in the business but my year with Paul was fantastic and he was the best Manager I've ever had in my entire quite varied career. He does a huge amount for Southern and GTR and had a huge involvement in the BTN mainline blockades last year which were a huge success. I have every admiration and respect for Paul and I hope one day down the line he will be my manager once again.“
