Nominations for Apprentice of the Year

Said the following about Jonothan Neil:

“Jonothan is a hardworking, enthusiastic and determined young man who strives to improve and learn every day. He has fast become an important member of the TGE team in Glasgow, quickly integrating through participation in team building events. Since joining in August 2017 Jonothan has studied towards and this year achieved an HNC in civil engineering and a SCQF Level 6 SVQ qualification in built environment and design. He has overcome missing 3 months of work and time to work towards his SVQ after he broke his leg in July 2018 which led to him missing 7 weeks of college. This was significant as Jonothan attends his classes on weekly day release basis so it is a great credit to him that he managed to catch up and pass the classes he missed while staying focused on completing the HNC and Level 6 SVQ, while performing/delivering to a good standard in his day to day work.

Jonothan has worked as a supporting technician on many jobs since he started with the company, such as the HEP East (Aberdeen to Inverurie dualing) – which involved providing office based support to our Jacobs colleagues based on site through processing of updated topographical surveys and provision of new and/or value engineered design details. Further, Jonothan was always aware of the time pressures associated with this work due to ongoing construction activities and was always willing to work longer hours to ensure delivery to programme. Jonothan has since progressed to taking on the lead technician role for Highways schemes. He continues to show improvements and learning through communications with colleagues – he isn’t shy in asking a question! – And through attendance at design meetings. Further, he handles pressure and expectations well, all of which is manifesting in an evident increase in confidence and work being produced to a high standard. Jonothan’s hard work and determination over the last year to achieve the qualifications he was working towards, whilst also working hard to improve his overall quality, efficiency and understanding of the work he is working on deserves recognition. Therefore, I think he should be recognised as the Apprentice of the Year“
