Said the following about RED & Right Track Editorial Board:

“RED and Right Track aim to make safety awareness accessible and hard-hitting; their ultimate mission is to prevent incidents and save lives. The team behind these products care for our people, and consider the safety implications of their roles, and making our environment safer by raising awareness and understanding of operational risk, promoting good practice and sharing learning.

RED and Right Track reach staff from all grades in 80 organisations across the network, and have done for years: RED has been going since 2001, and its sister publication Right Track since 2012. The reach and longevity of these products are testament to their popularity and impact.

“RED is the best part of the safety briefing.” Driver, GWR, February 2019.

“RED is an invaluable aid for briefing days with our drivers. The high production standards of the programme and the format keeps them engaged, and it continues to be a really useful tool for our briefers.” Scott Looker, Professional Head of Operations, Freightliner, April 2018.

This nomination is for the team which produces RED and Right Track, including representatives from TOCs, FOCs, infrastructure managers, suppliers and RSSB. They are all committed to the vision of everyone home safe, every day; and many do this in addition to their roles. They have a vital part to play in providing articles and interviews, checking scripts are technically accurate and believable, and providing video producers Big Button with access to track, train and staff.

Our team chooses content by looking at individual incidents with particularly strong learning points, or looking at emerging safety trends, to see where the next big risk is and make staff aware of that. The value or RED and Right Track in keeping the railway safe is recognised by the RMT, Samaritans, CIRAS and RAIB, who have all made an appearance. We give staff the opportunity to have their voice heard.

“[RED] is a powerful video touching on topics that could affect each one of us and I like the fact that there is a break half way to allow for discussion. It is an excellent video that is well-written.” John Tidyman, Head of SHEQ, TES 2000, August 2018

“[RED] is really hard-hitting and good, and generates discussion.” Peter Dempsey, Operations Management Trainer, Great Western Railway

The success in the mess room and briefing room is mirrored in the communications awards RED has won, with best commitment to ongoing internal communications at the Internal Communications and Engagement being the most recent. Our little video held its own against much larger offerings, including entries from banks, pharmaceuticals and charities.

RED and Right Track are unique in that they are made by the whole of industry working together. There is just nothing else like RED and Right Track out there that looks at issues from a whole-industry perspective and shares learning between different organisations.“
