Nominations for Apprentice of the Year

Mohammad Munir Azam Khan

Said the following about Jazper Bungay:

“Jazper Bungay has been a key member of OLE design team for the Gospel Oak Barking New electrification projects and Old Oak Common OLE decommissioning project. He has been taken responsibility for design delivery of several elements of the stage work designs too. A key design that Jazper was responsible for was the decommissioning of OLE of Old Oak Common Depot Reception line 1 & Reception line 2. This work was particularly difficult due to complexity of the OLE in the area and non-availability of correct record drawings. The OLE design work not only included specialised use of CAD software but also to apply the OLE design principles and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams spread across the country.

Jazper Bungay has been with AECOM since September 2014. He was selected under the Apprenticeship scheme in collaboration with Wiltshire College. Alongside working as OLE designer, Jazper has successfully completed HND in Mechanical Engineering with Distinction. He is currently working towards Level 4 Advanced NVQ in Engineering. His ultimate goal is to pursue degree in Mechanical Engineering.

During his four year period with AECOM, before joining the Old Oak Common, he has also worked as OLE designer for other projects like Gospel Oak to Barking, North Wembley and other S&C projects. Starting with Hither Green Points Heating as his first project, he was able to get grips of the CAD software and also understand the requirements of applying relevant standards and CDM (Construction, Design and Management) regulations in his designs. He was mentored throughout his design work and was offered assistance with the design process and OLE requirements. He has effectively produced his own CAD designs and has worked on checking comments in tight time scales. He was able to deliver the project as per the programme and agreed dates.

Apart from OLE design works, Jazper has also worked on Wessex project in which he produced calculations and basic design for Wessex Siding luminaries and access stairwell.

He is very proactive, persistent and takes overall ownership of his designs. He has achieved several key milestones within his term with AECOM alongside achieving excellent grades in HND. He has met and in many cases exceeded the expectations of his manager and mentor and is a worthy candidate for the Apprentice of the Year category in this year’s Rail Staff Awards.““
