Said the following about Ian Kennedy:

“Ian is a consistently exemplary driver who is very unassuming; the type of person who just gets on with their job. His actions below were brought to our attention by the Senior Conductor on the service, who felt they were worth recognition - and his management team wholeheartedly agree.

"On Tuesday 14th August 2018 the train arrived into the station. There was a young girl standing at the South end of the platform. The driver called me and said he wasn't happy to move because she was standing so close to the edge. I agreed, the driver then said he would go and speak to her. I could see he was talking to her and keeping her calm and moved her towards the railings. I then did a PA and asked for a qualified person on board who had any experience in dealing with a vulnerable person. A lot of doctors and police officers made themselves known. An off-duty policeman stepped forward and he went to the young girl and spoke to her. The driver returned to the train and spoke to the signaller to keep him updated. The lovely lady from the booking office then came out and I asked her and the security man to go and assist the policeman and try to convince the girl to walk away from the end of the platform, they were all successful and took the girl away from the train towards the booking office. The driver and I then carried on with our duties. Overall I think the driver stopped a potential suicide and the lady in the booking office dealt with a very upset young girl."“
