“Over the past 10 years the wheel lathe team has maintained the wheels on the 225 fleet, helping to extend the wheel life of the MK4's to reach 1.1millions miles. Even still they are helping the engineering department to improve wheel life even more on the MK4's and also extend the life of the Class 91's.
All their hard work has also been noticed by other TOC's and they are also now tyre turning for Abellio (MK3's, CL90) and looking to further help with turning their 153, 156, 317 and 321's over the next year. They have also helped Volker Rail when one of the units failed at bounds Green. They assisted with wheelset changes and tyre turning to help get their troubled Tamper unit back out working to maintain the tracks. They are also helping TFL with turning loose wheelsets for the Piccadilly line and Central Line.
As a team they have developed strongly, becoming a key asset to the depot and company, they help with training and development of other depot staff to try and improve the reliability and standards of the fleet.
Every challenge they undertake is welcomed and accomplished to the very best of standards with pride.
The team is regularly praised for their hard work and dedication, the organisation and cleanliness of their working environment and their willingness to create better working practices within the depot.“
