The RailStaff Awards 2024

Samaritans has been in partnership with Network Rail since 2010 as part of a suicide prevention programme that represents and serves the whole industry. Samaritans has trained over 7500 rail industry staff and British Transport Police officers with the skills to approach and listen to a person in need on the rail network. Samaritans are again sponsoring the Lifesaver award and are keen to recognise those people who have proved that engaging with someone and encouraging them to talk about their problems can save lives. To nominate someone or to get yourself nominated for the award please click the above link.

Who are Samaritans?

We’re here for people to talk through their worries and feelings by phone, email, SMS and face-to-face visits. We receive more than five million contacts a year from people of all ages, backgrounds and circumstances. We are not a religious organisation, and we rely almost entirely on donations. 21,200 volunteers deliver our service through 201 branches in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

You don’t have to feel suicidal to call us, but we’re also here for you if you do. Around 80 per cent of people who call us do not feel suicidal at the time. We encourage you to call us whenever you feel ready to talk, so that difficult feelings don’t spiral out of control.

If you want to talk, call us on 08457 90 90 90, or to learn more about us and to find your nearest branch visit www.samaritans.org.
