Nominations for Rail Team of the Year

Simone Carter

Said the following about Revenue Protection Managers - Birmingham Area:

“Revenue Protection and Security Team of managers are quite often just thought as those annoying people whose only purpose is to penalty fare everybody at stations and on trains, however their actual role is far bigger than this.

The team have proved to be invaluable in all that they do, their assistance in supporting and facilitating crowd control at all of our football events at stations assisting us station managers in writing and implementing crowd control plans, for myself when I came into the role , they knew my station and knew how the crowds behaved and really did assist me with my plans on implementing new plans and re jigging the crowd control system for the Hawthorns Station- we’ve even managed to curtail the Millwall fans from wrecking the station which is a massive accolade!

They also engage with our BTP football police officers joining me on site to talk and walk-through plans.

When the school children went back to school last year, every single day the team were at stations during term time to assist with the Covid Crowd controls to protect pupils which was quite problematic due to the sheer volume of pupils at Hagley station and also at Worcester foregate St which due to the layout of the station can be quite problematic in implementing crowd control and queuing systems.

They have engaged with all stations and station colleagues along my line, encouraging them to report incidents of anti-social behaviour via the reporting tool set up and using this intel to undertake night patrols in areas that were particularly problematic especially with anti-social behaviour. Taking the time out to speak with the individuals creating problems at stations to try and find solutions and attempt to remedy behaviours.

This was undertaken at Malvern Link and on the Stratford line- working out strategies to implement elsewhere within the business.

They have been joining company council meetings with our local Senior Conductor LLC to assist them with on train issues and identify problem hot spots, which is really refreshing and has really helped strengthen relationships.

I have known individuals from the team take time out and speak with station colleagues when there has been issues at their respective stations

So they are not just the bad ‘guys on’ the train, they are a great team who I know I can rely on for support for my stations and my station colleagues, who really do go above and beyond in all that they do.“
