“From being a 15 member team four years ago, the Rail Consulting South (RCS) Civils team has now tripled in size and widened its horizons on four different offices (Swindon, Bristol, Cardiff and Crawley). The team consists of Engineers, Apprentices, BIM modellers and CAD technicians with varying levels of experience and capabilities. This is one of the most diverse teams within Amey Consulting; with almost 30% of female and 40% ethnic minority members. The wide-ranging backgrounds and experiences help to bring new ideas and provide efficient services to the customers.

The team is currently working on the Core Valley Lines (CVL) transformation project, successfully delivering several civils engineering deliverables within very short timescales. Works are delivered under different work packages. Scope of designs include, Footbridges, new stations, platform extensions, depots, station upgrades, parapet extensions, OLE foundations, signal foundations, RRAPs and compounds and other ancillary civils works. The team has been involved from options selection to detailed design stages and provides site support as well. The team always gives top priority for health and safety and sustainability. For instance, use of GRP products, modular platforms, precast concrete solutions, etc. are proposed for various applications, thus reducing carbon footprint and/or minimising on site team for the construction team. Civils design works are undertaken in 3D BIM model, thus making clash detection and visualisation of the design proposal easier.

The Civils team is committed to the professional development of the team members and actively train the junior members through structured training schemes. Over the past 2 years, a number of the team members have become professionally qualified at various levels. The team keeps the wellbeing of the members at the heart and look after each other and takes part in social events and community involvement days as a team.
