Said the following about Phil Lees:

“Since working alongside Phil for the last 4 years, there has not been a day that I have been able to fault his dedication, customer service or commitment to the company, team and customers at CrossCountry.

I have worked on many a shift with Phil and have witnessed first-hand his gold standard delivery of customer service and team building.

He is driven by positive customer journeys and encourages this attitude in our team by being available for advice, support and reflection on the day’s events.

When thinking about writing this nomination, I struggled to find just one example to demonstrate Phil going above and beyond as he does simple, memorable things on every shift that make such a difference. He makes children smile, people laugh and is always helping our more vulnerable customers on their journeys with us. These simple acts alone make a huge difference to our customer’s journeys, and I feel this should be rewarded.

I know I speak for all of our team when I say he is a committed, professional and thoughtful team player who goes the extra mile for both us and the customers.

He is a trainer for the new entrants at Derby and he speaks so passionately about this part of his role. He remains approachable, knowledgeable and gives useful feedback when assessing us on board the trains and he supports us to build team moral which has been more important than ever throughout the pandemic.

For me personally, he has been a consistent advocate for CrossCountry qualities and standards and he is someone I aspired to be like when I joined the company. When I went through a difficult time last year, Phil surprised me with his kindness by reaching out and supporting me outside of work, he checked on me and my wellbeing and continued to make me feel a valued part of the CrossCountry family even whilst I was off work. For this, I will be forever thankful.

I feel my nomination is not merely enough to describe Phil’s qualities and I hope our team get behind him and vote for him to win the award for Rail Person of the Year so he can get the recognition he deserves!“

Said the following about Phil Lees:

“I worked with Phil for a while and watched him earn a very well deserved role as Retail Service Manager Coach. He completed some assessments on me (as I was a retail service manager) and I could not have asked for someone more supportive, funny and down to earth than Phil. Since I left CrossCountry, Phil has got a job as a trainer and I could not be more proud of him. You’ll not meet a nicer person than Phil and his passion for the railways and excellent customer service could not be more obvious! Phil has helped my grow by encouraging me to apply for a conductor role at Northern Trains, and thanks to this I am now training for my dream job as a driver!“
