“Oliver started with Northern in March 2022 as a part-time Train Presentation Operative. In August we received some lovely praise from a customer:

“Hello Team, I am speaking on behalf of my 85 year old Father who was a little bit lost within Manchester Airport today whilst trying to get towards the train station to get home to my poor, sick mum in Liverpool. Your employee Oliver who was a Northern Train Cleaner in Manchester Airport approached him and asked him whether he was ok. My Father was not as he was a little bit lost in the Sky-link. So Oliver had brought him down to the Train Station, Helped him buy a ticket from the Ticket Machine, Brought him for a sit down and brought him a coffee in the cafe and also helped him on the train with his 4 cases and also booked assistance in Liverpool Lime Street for him for the time he had arrived. He really had calmed my lost Father down and assisted him from point one. He is honestly a true credit for your company and definitely deserves a promotion as a person this caring should not be a cleaner. My father was on the 1459 Northern service from Platform 1A and arrived into Lime Street at 1627 happily and speaking all about him as truly Oliver had made his day! Thank-you for employing people like this as he is a true credit to your selves. Thankyou Sam.”

For a young man to be so thoughtful and respectful towards our customers and also an elderly gentleman, is fantastic and I believe he should be recognised for his caring and professional approach.“
