“The Mental health Triage Unit is designed to try to stop mental health incidents happening on the railway and to stop them re-occurring at a future date.
It has seen the collaborative working of Network Rail, NHS Merseycare, British Transport Police (BTP) and Avanti.
The unit, a marked BTP with an NHS health professional onboard can quickly attend incidents between Warrington and Preston, and the health professional
on board can access medical records and then point individuals to the care that they need.
The unit also helps to free up police time to concentrate on other work.“
