“After completing his PhD in electrical engineering and spending 10 years working in traction power design for various companies including Scott Wilson Railways, Network Rail, Parsons Brinkerhoff and Mott MacDonald, Maciej joined Amey Consulting in 2019. In this short time with Amey, he has become the lead traction power engineer for the Wales & Borders CVL project. He has faced many difficult challenges on this project, both of a technical nature and also with changing project requirements, but he has shown tremendous professionalism in dealing with them and has been a true leader.
Maciej and his team have made some ground-breaking innovations in traction power design that have provided huge savings in carbon emissions, power efficiency and project capital costs. This includes the use of catenary-free sections that has significantly reduced carbon-intensive Civils and OLE construction work, exploiting modern battery storage systems to power rolling stock and optimising power efficiency by reducing reactive power losses during the night when the trains are not running. At a time when the global climate emergency calls for decarbonisation and a resurgence of rail electrification in the UK, Maciej and his team’s design work is sure to provide vision and inspiration for future electrification projects.
Maciej is a “true” engineer by all accounts. By applying his exceptional knowledge of electrical engineering theory and principles he continues to shape the engineering of our future.“
