Said the following about Lola Konstantopoulos-Goldie:

“I’m nominating Lola for exceptional service to the rail industry for over 30 years. Lola has served on the railway since 1988, joining as a catering assistant in a maintenance depot after a career in advertising. She worked her way up through administrative positions, coming to play a role in arranging and delivering on a number of important engineering projects. Not to be held back, Lola moved over to technical grades, and now works as a Maintenance Protection Co-Ordinator, liasing with third parties to ensure the safe and secure operation of maintenance and engineering works on the railway. Lola continued to work throughout COVID and has persevered in spite of the difficulties this caused.

I have seen Lola’s attitude to service in this last role, where she has supported in delivering numerous community projects across the South-West. Lola has provided advice and guidance on how to secure safe access to disused Network Rail land, allowing local communities to transform and take ownership their local railway.

What best exemplifies this is Lola’s community work during the COVID pandemic. Going above and beyond, Lola in her spare time organised a community group in Exeter to transform a derelict piece of land in the station carpark into a wildflower garden. Lola worked on this throughout COVID, offering an outlet for isolated individuals to develop new skills and friends. This exemplifies Lola’s qualities: hard-working, helpful, always positive, and prepared to overcome whatever challenges come her way. Her lifetime of service is a model for us all.“
