Nominations for Train Driver of the Year

Iluska Sandor

Said the following about Graham Dudley:

“Graham Dudley is strong, caring & compassionate driver with ScotRail. Graham has been with the company for 25 years; 12 years driving. Graham was driving the train when he was made aware of a problem ahead, by a passing train flashing its lights. He slowed right down. He saw a man in the distance, and drew up to him. The man spoke with Graham, "on you go son, I'm waiting on a faster one". Graham called the signaller & it was confirmed that there was a blockage on the line. He left the cab & got down onto the line, and blethered with the man. The man explained he was being made redundant and having family problems. Also, that he had left a suicide note and was afraid to go home. Graham actively & continually engaged with the man, offering help & assistance and that ScotRail and the Police would do so, too. Rapport had been established, and after around 20 minutes he successfully convinced him to come up into the train. The train moved into the next station and the BTP arrived soon afterwards. Graham states that the BTP were very good with the man. Graham explained, "The 'boy' just wanted to talk, to get everything off his chest. I'm just glad that he was listening and I could get through to him. All he wanted to do was talk".“
