Terrance Tompkins

Said the following about Adrian Libberton-Rowe:

“Adrian has been the driving force behind changing how we train new drivers on the central line for a couple of years now, he has given his own time to help us achieve an excellent learning environment for trainees . Adrian have is an instructor operator at white city train crew depot he is an inspiration for me and other instructor operators and has helped me personally achieve a higher training standard that helps me train new drivers. I know he has personally help other instructors to achieve the same.

He has developed new training aids and new training log books also new computer based training programs all with the aim to deliver better quality training for trainees so they can achieve the best results. He has done all this without being asked by management and he has done this because he cares how trainees feel and how they can best learn an extremely difficult role with lots of rules and regulations.

He is always open and has the time to help anyone who asks.

He has taken lots of disapproval voices from people adverse to change and yet he has carried on fighting for what is best for trainees, he has been personally verbally attack by others but has never taken his eye of the ball of how to deliver an excellent service to help trainees.

It would be nice for him to be recognised for the fantastic things he has done and carries on doing not for himself but for others.“

Paul Hamilton

Said the following about Adrian Libberton-Rowe:

“Adrian has only been in the role for a couple of years yet he has moved the role on and helped develop other instructor operators new and old in the position. Adrian goes above and beyond his duties. He does most of the extra stuff in his own time taking on duties and responsibilities that he doesn’t get true recognition for.“

Sharon Doyle

Said the following about Adrian Libberton-Rowe:

“Adrian is a great Instructor Operator, his knowledge knows no bounds. Whatever the question you ask him he has the answer and is always available to answer any questions or concerns.

Adrian was my trainer and he not only gave me his time but he also created homework tasks for me to help me study.

I can’t praise him enough. I know he was working on creating more online tests etc. to help new trainees going forward and this was all in his own time.

Because of his commitment to me, I passed my road test and made him proud and me very grateful to have him for my trainer.

He really is dedicated to his job and has a passion for what he does.

He’s very deserving to be recognised for his efforts.“

Nora O'Sullivan

Said the following about Adrian Libberton-Rowe:

“I would like to support the nomination made by Terrance Tompkins for Adrian Libberton-Rowe.

When I transferred to the Central line Adrian was my instructor. I found him to be very dedicated and hardworking. I initially struggled with the geography of the line. Adrian identified my needs and in his own time he developed various training techniques and aids to help me. He also arranged for us to have a train late on a Saturday night so that I could have practical training on all the reversing locations. This was invaluable in helping me with learning all the various routes of a complicated line. On another occasion Adrian arranged for us to use the simulator to help me recognise the more common stock defects, and to also simulate typical operational occurrences prevalent to the Central line. This helped clarify my knowledge and build my confidence.

Throughout my training Adrian was very patient and considerate, and he made learning fun! He was also supportive during difficult moments, and continues to support me to this day. Adrian always goes above and beyond what is expected of an Instructor Operator. The Central line and London Underground are very fortunate to have such a high calibre Instructor Operator in Adrian to teach and inspire new and existing Train Operators, and to ensure they have the skills and knowledge required to be professional and competent in their role.“

Emma Baldwin

Said the following about Adrian Libberton-Rowe:

“Adrian is a brilliant teacher and mentor, I have had the joy of attending one of his courses and they are delivered in a way that takes the needs for each learner into consideration.

The teaching material that is provided and designed by himself is well thought out and I have used it multiple times to improve the quality of my work.“

Ushwin Pai

Said the following about Adrian Libberton-Rowe:

“Adrian is exceptional.

Initially self taught, he has done copious research, completed numerous self driven qualifications and learning to improve his output and published lots of new courses to push the company's L&D practises forward.

From eLearning to classroom based teaching, he's come up with new ideas and implemented them so that they are now BAU. He never remains the "one point of failure". If something is implemented, he personally makes sure that others know how to do what he does so that the business can continue without him.

I had the privilege of being able to mentor him for a year, and I can't speak highly enough for his work ethic, inventiveness, can do attitude, and quality output. He is someone you can utterly rely on.

Every industry would be proud to have an Adrian - and we have him. This should be celebrated.“

Liam Doyle

Said the following about Adrian Libberton-Rowe:

“Adrian is a superb facilitator, content design and training professional!

He joined the Bakerloo and Central lines improvement teams last year and hasn't stopped.

Adrian ever mindful of the learner’s needs, by taking existing training materials that were basis, but also not fit for purpose and using his expertise gained from his own development as a learning practitioner and brought them to life for the learners.

Courses that were "chalk and talk" are now interactive, engaging with gamification, and meet the needs of the many with their varied learning styles.

I have worked closely with Adrian over the year, watching him personally funding his own personal development enrolling City and Guilds L&D L3 and Lead IQA course.

Adrian has brought his unique artistic, flare, talents, persona and skills to the department designing E-learning packages, training materials and work books, briefing documents.

Often spending hours of his own time to ensure a quality product for the learners has been achieved.

Adrian as a trainer has taken an internal design course and become the subject matter expert and architect of the LU Skills Development design stand. Often delivering the new high standards to novice designers and external suppliers whilst acting as a guardian of these standards as a reviewer of material developed, and guidance at any time for those needing help.

Adrian also helped develop a redundant area within Acton Work and create a new learning hub for the Central line programme with two new classrooms a breakout area and e-hub. Sourcing equipment second hand from within the company, ensuring costs were limited and maintaining a green sustainable way of training. Such is the success of this area other parts of the business and department are booking its use.

Finally Adrian cares about his colleagues, he personally supported me through a traumatic event which had me contemplating my own existence, he understood and almost carried me when my mental health was at its very lowest a listening caring voice that supported my return to my training role. Notwithstanding another colleague who had a heart attack at work Adrian continues to go out of his way to ensure that his colleagues, learners are at the forefront.“

Samiul Alam

Said the following about Adrian Libberton-Rowe:

“Adrian is one of those individuals who always gives his 100% toward a task. Whenever I asked him for any kind of help, he skilfully balanced his own workload and always made time to help out, even if that meant having to sit on his PC at home on the weekend.

He is a perfectionist when it comes to content development, be it simple or highly complicated. He is warm and approachable but firm and assertive when he needs to be. He feels very strongly about maintaining the LU standards when it comes to developing training materials. It is these qualities that make him an amazing colleague not only to work within the Learning and Development team but also a shining example of what most of us should be aspiring towards.“

Joe Mutimer

Said the following about Adrian Libberton-Rowe:

“Adrian has been seconded to the CLIP project for over a year. In that time he has not only over delivered excellent learning content within his role of content developer but he has covered many other roles that needed to be filled.

Adrian has taken on board the company design standards and now delivers courses to staff, he has become an ambassador for the LU standards.

Adrian has voluntarily taken on the Training admin for my team of trainers and has increased efficiency of trainer use. His scheduling has ensured we deliver an excellent service to the project.

Adrian also regularly steps in to deliver training when there are no trainers available, he ensures he is constantly learning new courses to increase his ability to assist the team.

Adrian also ensures he maintains his substantive role CMS requirements which is not easy when also doing a full time role. He has acted as a subject matter expert for the project when dealing with suppliers earning him complementary feedback from external rail professionals.

Adrian is an exemplar of a training professional and any training organisation would be greatly improved with his presence. He also demonstrates how to deliver on a secondment while keeping his substantive role commitments fulfilled.

The only down side to working with Adrian is that I know someday he will move on to something else and I'll lose his talents and hard work.“

Erica Hudson

Said the following about Adrian Libberton-Rowe:

“I recently managed the London Underground Skills Development Training Design Team (covering maternity leave). We had a very high work overload and a vacancy in the content development element of the team which left a significant gap in a particular skill set. Adrian volunteered to help us, despite being on a secondment to a different team. He produced train operator progress books for all 9 lines including stakeholder management on behalf of the accountable Business Partner. He also assisted the Design Team with BAU filming, photography, and the creation of digital learning content.

He volunteered to become a Look Feel and Tone of Voice (LFT) SME, trainer, assessor and reviewer. This was not part of his secondment accountabilities and filled a gap left by a content developer who left the company. Without Adrian we would struggle to deliver this training and meet the LFT needs of the wider team, and this would cause delays to critical design projects.

During lockdown Adrian realised that many of the desktop PCs in the Design office at Baker Street weren't functioning properly and he voluntarily took on the task of updating software and reporting faults in preparation for hybrid working and the end of social distancing in the office.

He has also volunteered to be a DSE Assessor for Skills Development.

Adrian has paid for his own upskill in eLearning development, Adobe Suite and is sharing this knowledge with the team.

Within his secondment to the Central line Improvement Programme he is delivering more than his role, including carrying out design management tasks to support his manager. Adrian is scheduling training and allocating trainer resource, engaging with Trade Unions, setting up facilities for training, creating RBTNAs and upskilling trainers in RBTNAs, has gained emergency operational manager driving licence on Bakerloo and Waterloo and City, as well as Central to enable assessment of train operators, and carrying out workplace coaching assessment for Instructor Operators.

Adrian has high standards, continuously works on his own development and is always willing to help and support colleagues and managers, volunteering to take on extra work and working in his own time when needed.“
