Said the following about Steve Wiskin:

“Since 1979, Dyer & Butler has built a solid reputation for quality and service within both the public and private sector by delivering civil engineering and building projects of all sizes, throughout England and Wales. The company work extensively in safety critical environments for clients such as Network Rail, London Underground, Airports and National Grid and as such, we need to ensure that our workforce are “100% safe”.

Dyer & Butler are very proud of our safety performance, and our key objective in this area is to maintain our excellent safety record. One of our key commitments to health and safety is the ongoing delivery of a sustainable behavioural safety program which supports the company value for safety that health and safety is “at the heart of everything we do”.

Dyer & Butler have embraced the concept of behavioural safety and have operated a system known as Dyer and Butler Behavioural Safety (DABBS) for the past 12 years. In 2015 the Board of Directors decided that the current behavioural safety program and its associated training package should be revised and re-invigorated to ensure that the program maintained its effectiveness.

In view of this it was agreed that external support would be used to promote the development of the revised program to ensure that the behavioural aspects of the course were kept in line with the expectations of the industry.

As a result of the search for a suitable external partner that could assist Dyer & Butler with this work, a decision was made to engage Steve Wiskin from Inspiring Safety Solutions to provide the external specialism that was needed. Steve Wiskin established Inspiring Safety Solutions to support and work in partnership with clients to increase safety awareness and develop cutting-edge solutions for the management of workplace risks.

Steve Wiskin’s goal of helping their clients get the very best from their people aligned itself perfectly within the safety vision of Dyer & Butler which focused on the personal health and safety ability and accountability of our employees.

Steve’s specialism in behavioural safety programs is also tried and tested and he has won many awards and accolades and as a result, this provided Dyer & Butler with the assurance that we were engaging with competent and professional partner who would be able to work closely with the company to tailor a bespoke course that would be the perfect fit for our business.

Over the months that followed and through countless meetings, and correspondence, Steve Wiskin worked closely with members of the Dyer & Butler safety team to tailor a series of courses that included updated material to promote and revitalise the behavioural programs within Dyer & Butler.

Steve’s input to this process was always objective, professional and specific to the needs of our business and his input into the design of the training courses has made sure that they are both informative and engaging for the participants.

Each of the training packages contained the right mix of theory, practical and visual information to make the training effective. Steve delivered a number of these courses to our workforce and the feedback was always positive.

Steve also assisted to compile the overall training plan for each level of training associated with the roll out of the behavioural safety training and provided training and support to the team of internal trainers who then took the program forwards during 2016.

Steve Wiskin’s input has been invaluable to this process and his ideas, creativity and professionalism have only added value to our behavioural training program. It is therefore envisaged that the investment that the enriched program has provided will be recognised for many years to come.

Steve Wiskin’s ability as a behavioural safety specialist and trainer has certainly provided Dyer & Butler with an advantage through our enhanced behavioural training programs to ensure that our employees hold the firm belief that they have a choice to make and this is to be …”Safe by Choice…Not by Chance”.“

Joanna Fallon

Said the following about Steve Wiskin:

“I believe Steve deserves this award as he consistently delivers tailored, fun, engaging and professional training and does so with immense passion and positivity.

Steve uses the term 'workshop' as he believes in creating a relaxed and friendly environment to work together to achieve the set goals. He ensures everyone is involved and inspires attendees, via cleverly tailored sessions, to look at and think of situations differently. His unique coaching style enables each delegate to go on a personal journey, during the training, that empowers them to take ownership and responsibility of their actions.

Steve has empathy for his delegates having worked in various positions and therefore understands the day to day situations that they will encounter. The examples Steve uses during the training are real life events which delegates have seen or been part of and therefore learn the most from.

I can honestly say that I have never had the pleasure of working alongside someone who has as much passion for training in the way that Steve does, actually caring about each delegate taking away something positive and useful, not just for themselves individually but for the future of their company too.“
