Nominations for Safety Person or Team Award

Chris Austin

Said the following about Security Team:

“Lee works for the Security department and has been the lead on introducing several new schemes to reduce trespass, vandalism and occurrences of people presenting themselves to self-harm.

Lee works collaboratively with many stakeholders including civil police and BTP, local authorities, Network Rail and many more.

Lee’s idea are always innovative and effective.

One of Lee’s most recent plans was to reduce the number of attempts of persons trying to self-harm at Bache, one of our unstaffed stations.

Bache has had over 20 incidents since the beginning of 2022. One of the contributory factors is that there is a local hospital with mental health unit, and we have found that when patients leave there is an increased risk of them presenting at Bache. Lee has introduced a process were the hospital will on release of an at risk patient will advise BTP and Merseyrail control and we will send staff and monitor remotely the station, to protect the individual and the train service. We are planning to reduce the number of incidents by 30% in the next 12 months. This plan could save lives“
