Nominations for Rail Manager of the Year

Said the following about Rehana Khawaja:

“Rehana has worked at Marylebone for many years and is one of those rare people who is popular with customers, staff, managers, station tenants, and in fact almost everyone she meets. In 2015 she was promoted to Station Manager and this has given her the chance to really shine.

Although she is well loved by the staff, she also commands respect, and despite no previous managerial experience she has proven to be extremely good at getting the best out of her team. She has a real ability for motivating staff, and has even been known to liven up her start of shift "huddles" by getting the staff to do yoga.

She has an off-the-wall sense of humour, but has also proven herself able to handle the most serious of incidents, leading an evacuation of the station in her first few weeks when there was a train fire one night. Her suggestion of opening a fire exit at the rear of the station - for customers to enter - allowed services to resume much more quickly than would otherwise have been the case.

Rehana is also a tireless worker, and can often be seen selling tickets in the booking office, or just generally lending a hand. She provides a great deal of support to her staff, and this often happens behind the scenes. When staff need some help, or extra training, they know that they can approach Rehana for support or advice. She regularly gives up her free time to assist others and is often found on her days off "just passing through" to make sure everyone is ok.

In the attached photo Rehana can be seen taking home a kitten which was abandoned at the station. This is a typical example of her caring nature and her kind and generous outlook on life.“
