Said the following about Ramiro Aldana:

“Ramiro joined the S&C North Alliance as an Amey Pathways Graduate Engineer in December 2015. With his academic background in Masters in Environmental Engineering & Civil Engineering, Ramiro faced a steep learning curve to pick up the knowledge of the rail infrastructure, methods and engineering practice that we often take for granted. Ramiro has made an enormous contribution to our team and, in all my time in the industry have never known such a worthy nomination for this accolade.

Within 3 months of joining the team, Ramiro passed his PTS for AC and DC lines and had become firmly imbedded in the Engineering and Project Management at the Alliance’s Crewe depot. He immersed himself in the track delivery standards and by the end of March had become responsible for the Critical Rail Temperature (CRT) register and been accredited and appointed as the CRT co-ordinator for the North West. In this role, Ramiro successfully introduced remote rail temperature monitoring on a high profile, multidisciplinary modelling project at Oxenholme. His efforts reduced the need for early mobilisation and number of hot weather patrollers required to attend site, reducing the cost of the work and ultimately taking people away from risk on the worksite. Following the successful deployment, this method of remote monitoring has been recognised as good practice and rolled out across all Alliance worksites in the North West.

Ramiro has also played a key role in aligning the delivery programme with GRIP4Track and the delivering of work within possessions DWWP processes. This assurance work has seen performance in this area improve from below 40% to over 85% products delivered on time.

Ramiro has also been instrumental in improving real time progress reporting with our stakeholders, supporting the role out of improved Project Contingency Plan tools (PCP) and simplifying the hour by hour delivery updates. Live time reporting has been well received by Ops and the routes and made possible early intervention to protect on time possession hand back ensuring the public travel plans are not affected.

At the end of his rotation with us in January next year, Ramiro will continue his development with the Amey Pathways programme, taking on the opportunity to build upon the foundations he has built with us, working with another part of Amey’s business.“
