“Nigel joined VolkerWessels UK in October 2014 as an L&D Business Partner, with specific remit for VolkerRail. A training professional with more years experience than he cares to remembers, he immediately immersed himself into the business, and began building relationships and getting to know the different teams across the whole of the Rail business.

It did not take long for word to spread that Nigel was approachable and full of useful, practical ideas to share, and people began to proactively ask him for help and assistance in a variety of topics – from delivering team days which help people work collaboratively, to simply giving 1-2-1 coaching sessions to people who had an issue that they wanted to talk through.

He was officially attached to some big ticket items for VolkerRail (Engineering Excellence; Commercial Academy; Supervisor Development to name a few) and soon gained a reputation for being someone that you wanted to have in the room for not only his contribution to the topic in hand, but his personality and positivity.

In addition to working across the VR business, Nigel also quickly made contact with VolkerStevin and VolkerBrooks and offered his services to those businesses too. He has also delivered modules of the VFL Graduate programme, and proactively looks for opportunities to bring people from the wider VWUK group together to share ideas and find solutions together using the expertise of those in the room.

He represents VR at the NSARE trailblazer group which is defining new standards for Apprenticeships across the rail industry in the years ahead; and is forging a reputation at wider industry events through his contribution.

I am hugely proud to have Nigel in the team as he is a fabulous ambassador for Learning & Development, VolkerRail and indeed VolkerWessels.
