Said the following about Nick Coman:

“Nick joined the team on a graduate rotation after an eventful and challenging year within one of the most difficult projects in Telent. He was in the last few months of his graduate scheme and had already taken charge of a complicated delivery at his previous station.

During this transition it was obvious that he had had a positive impact this team, and he picked up and took ownership of areas of the project and worked through documentation to a standard beyond expectations. In his short time there he gained a technical knowledge of the systems including how the applications he was working on fitted in with the end to end solution. Nick consistently collaborated with the client, which is a challenge for any Engineer, let alone a graduate!

It was obvious after many hand over accolades that Nick was an exceptional talent and we wanted to push him further, in fact he encouraged it. Never have I witnessed a young Engineer so willing to go above and beyond in order to deliver project works.

He was absolutely a king pin in the successful delivery of a DOO Grip 4 project for NRT Southern. He led, managed and trained the team in the newly developed digital design and 3D manipulation which he has now expanded further by producing a concept that can be used business wide.

Nick is now running the delivery of 3D design and manipulation side of the team for much larger projects and will be pivotal in CCTV bids for enabling the management of cost reduction using this technology.

Nick has continually received thanks and acclaim from across the business and as the focus moves towards the uptake of a digital design environment, we are looking to Nick to manage and grow the digital design team not only in Rail and Transport Services but also across the business.

As the industry moves into another large growth phase, Telent needs to enable and deliver the senior people we need to help us to continue to succeed. As part of this growth Nick will be taking on the line management of two of the team and we are confident that the internal training and Nick's proven ability will help him to continue his accelerated development.

Nick will enable a wider strategy for the team as we build towards a digital design and survey philosophy across the business and the intention is to be able to leverage lower cost to our clients and in the longer term enable the possibility of totally minimising the requirement to visit site.

Nick has been a big part of the development of this Technical solution to a very old problem, which will see reductions in site visits by visiting virtually, and also reduction in Telent's carbon footprint. Many of the NR teams have been extremely excited about this technology and Nick should be very proud of the vision and ability that he has shown to put this technology at the forefront of our ability to win work, deliver efficiently and "wow" our clients and stakeholders.

Nick will be in charge of the delivery of this strategy with the responsibility of up scaling his team and providing the integrations to the digital design Rail Projects team as well as other disciplines within our transport services business and in the future to the business as a whole. It is a huge task and this will be the first step towards proving this facility to all of our important stakeholders.

Nick's behavior is exemplary and he is firmly committed to Telent's wonderful new core values of Inclusiveness, Responsibility, Collaboration and Customer Focus.

He is a model to which all graduate Engineers in Telent and the wider industry can look up to and copy.

Winning the Graduate or Newcomer award will not only enhance this philosophy within our business but I believe will set a bench mark to which all graduates in the industry can strive to attain.“
