Said the following about Marion Fisher:

“Marion Fisher & Jean Wharmsby carried out emergency first aid on a lady who attempted suicide by cutting her wrists. The ambulance took 45 minutes to arrive, and they had to continue to stem the bleed and keep the lady calm.

I met with Marion & Jean after their shift, they were as you can imaging very tired but they were more concerned for the welfare of the customer and her family. Which is why I was compelled to nominate them for an award.

Shortly after departure from Penzance, Marion Fisher was advised by the TM that there was a lady in the seating area who was bleeding and Marion needed to attended. Marion took the first aid box and went to offer assistance.

The lady was covered in blood, she had 4 small cuts to her one wrist and a large cut to the other, Marion radioed for help and Jean Wharmsby assisted, they attempted to stem the bleed with tea towels and cloths, but it was severe. Several sets of gloves and cloths were used. Whilst the TM called for an ambulance. To add to the incident the sleeper engine had already failed outside Penzance so there was a concern for moving and getting stuck between stations.

I was advised that the ambulance took around 45 minutes to arrive. Marion and Jean continued to compress the wounds and talk to the lady to keep her from passing out or getting more agitated. They talked about her family and anything to distract her from the incident. I believe that the two crew were amazing in the circumstances and went very much above and beyond their duty, taking over from the TM and putting their own fears and concerns away. To save this ladies life.

After the lady was taken by the ambulance, both Marion and Jean were very shook up, they did not allow this to distract them and after a good strong cup of tea. They were both looking after the other customers on board. Again this shows what an outstanding pair they really are.

Many thanks for reading and considering this nomination.

I am nominating Marion Fisher and Jean Wharmsby for this award because it was about the way they went beyond the call of duty if it wasn’t for their intervention there would of potentially been a very different outcome and a life may have been lost, it was their dedication to duty with no thought for themselves that they just got stuck in and saved a life the sort of caring that you don’t see every day, couldn’t be prouder of the way they reacted,
