“Marc was nearing the end of a busy shift dispatching trains at the station, when he noticed a man on the platform looking agitated. Marc approached the gentleman and began speaking to him. The man ignored Marc, and continued walking toward the end of the platform, attempting to climb over the security gate.
Becoming concerned for the man’s safety, Marc persisted in trying to make conversation with the gentleman, aware that a train was due shortly, and through his kind manner and persistence slowly managed to lead him away from the platform edge. At this point the man burst into tears and Marc was able engage him in conversation until the British Transport Police arrived.
We think this incidents shows incredible courage and calmness in the face of a dangerous and challenging situation, and Marc’s actions not only saved this man’s life, but also meant that a particularly unpleasant situation was avoided for our staff and passengers.“
