Said the following about Jason Sloan:

“Jason is a strong, compassionate & very caring member of staff. He's 25 years old; with ScotRail for 3 years & working as a SGB. Working alone in the booking office (Irvine), an older, ill-looking man came looking for help. He stated he was severely depressed, had been drinking all day, was diabetic & had been sick. Jason called an ambulance. Man revealed he had tried committing suicide, with pills, on several occasions, and had just spent 2 months in hospital. The reason: caught his wife in their bed, with another man. Explained he was severely depressed. Jason took him to back office & let him talk. Man got agitated & wanted to leave. Jason took him to front of station, away from platforms & danger. Jason discreetly informed his manager & asked that BTP be involved, as well as CCTV to monitor them. Jason continued in encouraging the man to talk. Man sobering-up & again, getting agitated & wanting to leave. Jason didn't want him to go, was so worried about him, so kept him talking. They found local, common ground. Jokes were even exchanged. But still neither an ambulance nor BTP arrived. Jason continued engaging with the man, coaxing him to remain & unburden himself until help arrived - 2.5 hours later! Jason said, "the event was surreal, but he felt so good that he was able to help & prevent the man from hurting himself. It was a positive outcome. The man just wanted somebody to talk to and I was glad he could help".“
