Said the following about Gerry Brown:

“Gerry is employed as a civilian Mobile Safety Vehicle Operator whose remit is to attend level crossings on the network in order to deter level crossing misuse thus ensuring the safety of passengers and reducing disruption on the railway. On 11/11/15, Gerry was at Waterbeach Level Crossing, Cambridgeshire as part of his day to day duties. He saw a female walk onto the crossing and lay down across the tracks. Immediately he saw her, Gerry exited his vehicle and went straight to the emergency phone to warn the signalman. He then persuaded a number of members of the public to help him lift the female off of the tracks, placing her in as place of safety whilst ensuring their safety. Gerry remained at the scene until police arrived and the female was detained under sec 136 of the Mental Health Act. Gerry's quick actions, especially his decision to call the signal box before attending to the lady, ensured a more appropriate approach and will likely have reduced disruption to a minimum as well as saving the lady's life.“
