Nominations for Samaritans Lifesaver Award

Scott Gibb

Said the following about David Fraser:

“Whilst the stations high level was closed for 20 weeks all trains were diverted to the low level.

One particular busy day on the low level David was awaiting his train on the platform when he noticed a man with a crutch walking towards the platform, the man jumped down onto the track between the 4 foot in an attempt to take his own life. David reacted quickly and professionally to help the man. David made quick decisions and jumped down to the track to help the man whilst shouting for help. There was no time for David to phone the signaller to stop the train as it was imminent. David was checking the tunnel mouth the whole time as he lifted the man up from the track to the platform with assistance from other staff which had answered his shout for help.

I believe if David did not react the way he did on this instance it could well have been fatal. This is the reason why David deserves this award in my opinion.

Said the following about David Fraser:

“David was waiting for the 1531 service and a passenger got off the 1526 service. The customer who had a walking crutch walked in a circle and appeared to just walk of the platform. Realising that the next train was due David didn't have time to run up to the signal or inform station staff to stop the trains. He checked no train was approaching and jumped down on the four foot and assited the passenger onto the platform with the help of another individual. David spoke to the driver of the train that arrived and was informed that he only received the emergency call as he was exiting the tunnel mouth and would have been too late to stop. Emergency services were called and customer ended up with head injuries and a broken leg. And sure a saved life.“
