“I am nominating Andrew as he has demonstrated what this award is for, he was a life saver. He went beyond the call of duty, by putting his own life at risk in order to safe a life from being hit by an oncoming train.
The following information is taken from a statement from Andrew.
" I was in the office when a witness alerted to me, that a man was staggering on the platform outside the office. I then went to investigate. To my horror, I then saw in the distance, the man on the track lying on the four foot, (between the tracks). I had to immediately respond with having no time to contact the signal box, as I literally had to jump down on to the track, and run as fast as I could, to stop the oncoming train approaching. I fortunately managed to stop the train about 40 meters short of the man on the track."
Andrew has clearly demonstrated his worthiness of this award and I feel he needs to be recognised for his courage, bravery and quick thinking, in such a potentially traumatic incident.“
