“Adam has delivered exceptional work throughout Covid-19 and beyond. He has always kept a positive attitude and has always tried to keep spirits high for his colleagues. Nothing has been too much in this period of time for him and he has delivered great results for not only his own business unit but others as well. An amazing leader and equally a brilliant colleague“

Said the following about Adam Sargeant:

“Adam and I work within the same overall team at Heathrow, under the Engineering and Baggage banner. However, our need to collaborate closely came about due to Heathrow's response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, which is 100% outside of our day jobs/role descriptions.

To summarise Adam I would highlight the following: he is keen to work collaboratively within Heathrow and with external stakeholders; he does not take for granted that everyone will understand the Rail Operation at Heathrow; he is an approachable colleague who provides support on varying levels; and finally he takes the wellbeing of his colleagues and passengers extremely seriously.

I have little knowledge and experience of the Rail assets and operation at Heathrow, but Adam has been integral in providing me with the time, support and input to help inform our strategy for remobilisation. Without his time to update me and enthusiasm for Heathrow Rail, it would have been a much more complicated process to develop our wider strategy and also articulate back into the wider business our varying challenges.

As well as Adam having to talk to varying parts of the Engineering and Baggage team, of which he sits in, he also represents Rail on various forums/groups leading changes in our operation due to COVID-19 at Heathrow. He is always keen to help, by providing solid explanations as to why we face certain constraints, which always helps to tell the story and win support!

His stakeholder engagement externally has also played a vital role in our development of the remobilisation strategy, he has assisted in the development of our critical path in order for us to plan effectively. From my work with Adam these stakeholders include Network Rail, TfL and our other supply chain partners.

One area where Adam's consideration for his colleagues and also proof he will raise any concern became apparent in a 1:1 discussion with me. He raised a query regarding back of house working areas and gaining an understanding of the approach we need to adopt to ensure the safety of our colleagues when they return to work. He raised an extremely valid point and on behalf of his Rail colleagues moved this forward engaging with the wider business to ensure consistency across the patch and equally ensuring back of house spaces (of which we have many, with varying size, layout and use) were fit for use! This embodies our Heathrow behaviours and competencies but also shows to the wider sector that Adam will always do the right thing, and will always think of the health and safety of his colleagues and passengers.

As with many companies we are facing a tough challenge with the ongoing impact of COVID-19, and a lot of people have had to take on additional workload, on top of their day jobs, to support this. Adam is no exception to this, he has been a key team member for the Rail team, representing their requirements and also the requirements of our stakeholders. He has carried this out in a virtual way, which in itself has been a big adaptation and he has always done this with an upbeat and positive manner. The mere fact his team rely on him to carry out this role shows their belief in his ability.

Adam has been a key colleague for me over the last few months. His knowledge and time has been integral. His positive and energetic personality has also helped lift mine and others spirits during a very tough few months.

I believe Adam should be considered for the Graduate/Newcomer award, as there are not that many who would have achieved such a positive impact during a very challenging time! Team Heathrow are proud to call him one of us!“

Said the following about Adam Sargeant:

“Adam led the rail consolidation/mothballing activities on behalf of Heathrow Airport Limited during the COVID-19 pandemic. His professionalism and dedication went beyond all my expectations in a crisis. He remained calm, objective, clear communication, understanding of the team’s limitations, their heightened emotions and was a key leader to speak to for all involved. Adam managed multiple teams and fed into critical decisions around closure of TTS, PODS, T4 HEX, and LU. I also know he has been hugely supportive of the team during the remobilisation of these rail assets, and the critical link between many, many different stakeholders. Adam is more than worth of this award and is the perfect example of strong leadership at Heathrow Airport.“

Kevin Tarrier

Said the following about Adam Sargeant:

“Adam joined the Rail team from the graduate scheme in autumn last year as the business resilience manager and found himself straight into contingency planning for industrial action! He hit the ground running and hasn't stopped since. From February this year he has led Heathrow Rail's response on Covid-19.

This has involved everything from the initial briefing and intelligence gathering and threat assessment through to developing the process and procedures (such as what to do in the event of a Covid-19 case in the station -passenger or staff) through to contingency plans for loss of resource, social distancing measures and the impact of closing Terminal 4 Rail Station.

Adam has worked collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders, from cleaning staff, customer hosts and station managers, TOC partners (GWR, MTR, LuL), Network Rail and all the way up to our Exec team here at Heathrow. Everyone has commented on his energy and enthusiasm and ability to deliver what has been needed.

To cap it all off he has even found the time to train and qualify as an Operations Controller in the Control Room to help bolster the resilience of that critical team. Quite frankly he has been a one man army!“
