Nominations for Apprentice of the Year

Said the following about Aaron Richardson:

“I would like to nominate Aaron Richardson for the Apprentice of the Year Award. Aaron is a Linesman working in ISS Labour’s OLE Division and was, until recently, a student at NCG’s Rail Academy in Gateshead.

Despite his relative youth, Aaron has made a significant impact on the railway industry. In his first two years, Aaron has gained a diploma in Rail Engineering and qualified as an OLEC1 and 2 Linesman, an Authorised Person and a COSS. Such is his application and resolve, he was recently awarded Student of the Year at NCG’s Rail Academy. He has already attracted the attention of the more senior Linesmen in ISS Labour’s OLE Division, who have singled him out for praise.

Aaron is a pleasure both to train and to work alongside. Eager to develop, he understands theory and assimilates new skills very quickly and is able to put them safely into practice with the minimum of fuss. Professional, respectful to those around him and an exceptional team member, Aaron undertakes any task given to the highest of standards and with infectious enthusiasm. He enjoys learning and those who have been involved with his training state that his thirst for knowledge is matched by his desire to produce work of the highest quality. One of his trainers, who is a time-served grizzly Linesman, recently stated that he would not hesitate to work alongside Aaron on any major Overhead Line project; no faint praise indeed!

Over the two years that I have known Aaron and watched his development, he has never demonstrated a flaw in his attitude to training or work. His attendance, punctuality, effort, progression, quality of output and work ethic have always been of the highest order. Aaron is a first class role model to those around him and he stands out as a natural leader. He is supportive of his peers and quietly helps those who need it and, as such, enjoys their respect.

Aaron exemplifies everything that the railway industry needs; an individual who is keen, eager to learn, intelligent, enthusiastic and willing to work hard in all conditions. He is at the vanguard of the next generation of railway engineers and I have every confidence that he will have a full, varied and successful career in the railway industry. His time served as an Apprentice sets the highest of standards for those who follow him and I unreservedly recommend him for the Apprentice of the Year Award.
