Said the following about Sheree Whetren:

“I am nominating Sheree Whetren due to her dedication in supporting the local community she works at (Hedge end), along with her charitable contributions she has made during the last 16 months of the Covid pandemic. As well as completing her full time ticket office role Sheree continually dedicates her own time supporting charitable good causes and the local community she serves.

When the first national lockdown was announced Sheree continued to engage with her local community by setting up a social media platform and dedicated time to improving the aesthetics of the station to improve the overall environment. Sheree also engaged with the community by setting a number of drawing competitions for the younger children in the community to take part in, these drawings where then made into a collage that was then displayed in the station windows for the community to admire.

During the run up to Christmas 2020 Sheree organised a fundraiser to provide a Christmas gift for vulnerable and older individuals that would be potentially be alone over the Christmas period, this fundraiser lead to over 620 gifts being donated, working with acts of kindness and other organisations these gifts were successfully delivered and made a real difference to the lives of the individuals that received them.

During the spring of 2021 Sheree engaged with local businesses who donated a variety of prizes that were used to gain funds during a raffle that SWR colleagues were encouraged to enter. Over £1000 was raised that was donated to the charity Action for children. During June and July of 2021 over £800 was raised by Sheree for a local charity Sophie's journey, Sophie is a 9 year old girl who was diagnosed with terminal cancer. The funds raised were used to provide an outside art house for Sophie to use.

Sheree continues to be dedicated to the local community and raising much needed funds for charities and good causes“
