Said the following about Sami Khan:

“Just eight minutes into Sami's Friday night shift (23:08) he received a call over the radio from the Station Control Room that there was a potentially suicidal person beside the tracks. Three minutes later Sami is on the scene and finds a lone male at the north end of the platform. Sami immediately engages with the man all the while encouraging him away from the platform edge and swerving the direct question "are the tracks live?"

Sami then discretely uses his radio to request a line block.

The British Transport Police then arrive and unfortunately their presence agitates the man but Sami manages to talk the man to a secure area behind secure doors, in fact a passenger emergency refuge point. At this point BTP take control and decided to section the man for his own safety and along with London Ambulance Service escort him to the local hospital.

Sami took control quickly and equally quickly built a rapport with the man. All the time he was talking with the man he was also using his radio in such a way that the man felt he had his full attention whilst Sami was advising other staff to stay away, to get the line block in place, to call the BTP.

During the conversation Sami was gently leading the man away from the platform edge and to the emergency refuge merely by slowly walking in that direction whilst conversing with him.

Sami took the lead, collaborated with the various parties and got creative enough with his radio language that the man was unaware of what was being organised without his knowledge. Once in a place of safety he handed the man to medical professionals“
