Said the following about Ryan Taylor:

“Ryan is a true Samaritan & a worthy winner of this award. He has demonstrated genuine compassion & kindness when it was most needed in a highly pressurised life or death situation.

Whilst driving his train Ryan responded to an emergency GSMR broadcast where he was advised that another train had reported that they thought they may have hit something & Ryan was requested to inspect the line.

He asked his conductor to accompany him in the driving cab whilst he inspected the line when they came across a person in the cess. The body was face down & motionless.

Ryan immediately advised the signaller of the situation & requested all lines to be blocked & that the emergency services attend immediately.

He quickly climbed down of his train to where the body was to find that the gentleman was still alive. He had a very weak pulse, massive trauma to the back of his head & was bleeding a lot form the mouth.

Ryan took off his own coat & placed it over the injured gentleman to keep him warm & prevent his body going into shock.

Luckily there was a nurse on board the train, Ryan equipped her with an HV vest & assisted her off the train to the trackside where the gentleman was positioned. Between them they rolled him over & began to perform CPR on him until the emergency services arrived.

Ryan is a true professional, he remained calm & level headed throughout this highly pressurised situation. He is a credit to our industry & an excellent role model to us all.“
