“Whilst our inspecting a level crossing Nick became aware of a man who was quite distressed. Nick managed to make a report to our control who cautioned trains in the area and requested assistance from British Transport Police.
Nick spent 15 minutes or more talking and listening to the man during which time it became apparent he was suicidal.
Nicks actions that day saved a life.“
“Nick works as a Level Crossing Manager for Network Rail. One morning he arrived at a level crossing to see a man stood on the East Coast Mainline where trains travel at 125mph. NIck had not had Samaritans training at that time but instinct took over. He was able to talk a suicidal MOP away from a busy, live, running rail to a place of safety where he could talk to the MOP. We will never know the full consequences if Nick hadn't talked with the MOP - but in my mind he saved someone's life and gave them a second chance to think about their future.“
“Someone who is very passionate about his job and colleagues, who has utmost respect for people in the company and outside.
Always willing to go that extra mile.
Nick successfully prevented someone from committing suicide without any training. Acting on his own initiative and concern for others safety and welfare.“
“Nick helped prevent a male member of public from harming themselves on the railway by stopping all trains and talking to the individual to help change his mind. Nick used his own intuition to converse with the individual.“
